On June 21 – the day with the most light – the summer solstice, Tampa residents will join thousands of advocates across the world to participate in The Longest Day.
Longest Day participants can support the event at home, online or in person activities– biking, hiking, playing bridge, knitting and more – to honor the more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and the more than 11 million family members and friends providing care and support.
In the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter alone, there are more than 200,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease. Statewide, more than 827,000 are serving as caregivers for those with Alzheimer’s or other dementia.
Events include:
- In St. Petersburg, Sonny’s BBQ will be donating 10% of all dine-in sales to the Alzheimer’s Association
- Participating locations include Palm Harbor, New Port Richey, Largo, Zephyrhills and Pinellas Park on Wednesday, June 21.
- In Clearwater, Arthur Murray Dance Centers of Clearwater will be hosting a Glass Slippers Gala. The event will be a live filming of the studio’s own version of Dancing with the Stars. Local ballroom students will be partnered with Arthur Murray professionals and all choreography will be created by Christian Perry of ABC’S ‘Dancing with the Stars’.There will be a TV crew, panel of judges, hosts and a live band.
- The event will take place on Friday, June 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets will cost $25 and a portion of those sales will be donated to the association. Get tickets at ArthurMurrayClearwater.com.
- In Port Charlotte, the farmer’s market at South Port Square is inviting the community to come out for a fun-filled day of shopping, tasting, and live entertainment all while supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.
- The event will take place on Thursday, June 22 from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.
