So much has been accomplished in 2023 to reach the Association’s mission: to lead the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
You showed up in tremendous ways for those served by our mission. Because of you, we were able to invest more than $100 million in global Alzheimer’s and dementia research, the most the Alzheimer’s Association has devoted to research in a single year. And because of your dedication, we were able to successfully and passionately reach even more people through our care and support services, volunteer efforts and fundraising initiatives.
Here are just a few ways you impacted Alzheimer’s care, support and research across Florida:
- Research – The Alzheimer’s Association cumulative impact on research now includes more than $360 million invested in over 1,000 active research projects in 53 countries. This includes $1.4 million awarded for research in Florida.
- Education, Training & Support – More than 40,000 Floridians were served through education programs, care and support services, awareness activities and care consultations.
- Advocacy – From Washington D.C. to Tallahassee to district meetings across Florida, advocates rallied to impact Alzheimer’s in Florida. The Florida legislature passed the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia Education and Training Act, establishing baseline dementia training standards for long-term care providers. The Brain Bus saw a 54% increase in funding to visit even more rural and at-risk communities. The Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative received an additional $12.5 million in funding to expand awareness and diagnostic services at memory disorder clinics and reduce the waitlist for respite services.
- Funding the Mission – Thousands of Floridians, from Pensacola to the Florida Keys, participated in Walk to End Alzheimer’s, The Longest Day and galas. Collectively more than $7 million was raised in the fight against Alzheimer’s and other dementias!
